Many factors can affect sizing, accordingly, we have developed the following sizing chart and sizing tips to assist you in determining the correct carrier size for you and your baby.

Sizing Tips:
The carrier size generally corresponds to your fitted (tight) t-shirt size.
Each person is shaped differently, and like clothing, some people may fit into more than one size or fall in-between sizes on the above sizing chart. The following additional sizing tips should be used as a guide to assist you in ordering the optimal size.
If you fall in-between sizes on the above sizing chart, CHOOSE SMALLER SIZE.
If you are petite – 5’4” or under – CHOOSE SMALLER SIZE.
If you are pregnant, use pre-pregnancy top size to determine appropriate carrier size. Carrier size generally corresponds to pre-pregnancy fitted (tight) t-shirt size.
Only choose larger size if you are 6 feet or taller.
When trying on the Baby K’tan™ Baby Carrier (without your child inside), the lowest point of the carrier should fall just below your chest and above your navel. When wearing your child in the carrier, the lowest point of the carrier may fall at your navel or waist, but should not fall below your hips.
When carrying your child in the Baby K’tan™ Baby Carrier: if the lowest point of the carrier falls at or below your hips, choose a smaller size; if the lowest point of the carrier falls at your chest, choose a larger size.
When carrying your child in the Baby K’tan™ Baby Carrier, if the carrier feels too loose (i.e., child feels insecure, legs are bumping child's body as you walk, or carrier easily slips off your shoulder), choose a smaller size.
The size of the Baby K’tan™ Baby Carrier is not based upon your child’s age or weight. The cross-stretch of the cotton knit fabric and the eight different carrying positions enables the carrier to grow with your child. Accordingly, you should not require a larger size as your child grows and develops from a baby to a toddler (up to 42 lbs).
The Baby K’tan™ Baby Carrier is made entirely of 100% natural cotton knit fabric. The Carrier should fit snugly and securely on you and your child. For optimal fit, wash and tumble dry – this enables the carrier to conform more snugly to your body. If you are new to baby wearing, you may think the Carrier is too small, however, a snug fit is optimal for securely carrying your child and for good back support. The cotton knit fabric enables the Baby K’tan™ Baby Carrier to stretch slightly to conform to you and your child.
It is important to Baby K'tan, LLC that you obtain a Baby K’tan™ Baby Carrier with the optimal fit, so that you and your baby are comfortable and secure. Therefore, if the carrier you purchased does not fit correctly, you may exchange it for the proper size in accordance with the exchange policy.

The information in the chart above is based on my experience and opinion or the experience of others who have provided me with feedback. It has been modified over time with the intent to give you an overall comparison for several types of baby carriers in order to help you decide what carrier might be best for you. I have found that all carriers have both advantages and disadvantages. It is usually best to decide what feature(s) are most important to you and find which carrier will do well in that area. If you have specific questions regarding the slings/carriers that I carry, please feel free to contact us. Also, if you have feedback about one of these slings that you feel would help me to update my chart, I would love to hear from you.

5 safety tips to tell if your baby carrier is fit correctly:
Mimics the in arms position When a baby is in a baby carrier, he should be in the same position as when he's being held in your arms. This is the single most important part to any baby carrier. If it is an upright baby carrier, the baby should be snug against your body, high on your chest, and in the same position your arms hold them in. If it is a side laying carrier, the baby should be between your breasts and your belly button, in the same position, and location as when you hold the baby in your arms. If you put the carrier on and let go of your baby and the baby moves away from you, drop downs, or slumps to the side etc, then your carrier is not on correctly.
Close Enough to Kiss The baby's head should be close enough to you that you can bend down and easily kiss the top of her head. If you cannot bend far enough to reach the baby, then she is too low. If the baby is too low, there is a higher risk of breathing difficulty, and you may feel that the baby is insecure or may fall out of the carrier. Wearing a baby too low will also cause backaches.
Held Tightly Make sure your carrier is tight enough you and the baby. When you lean over, or to the side, there should be little to no space between you and your baby. If you feel like you need to hold onto your baby to keep him falling out of the baby carrier, it probably needs to be tightened or you need a smaller size. If a baby carrier is too large, when you lean over, your baby will swing away from you. This will make it harder on your back, and will potentially put your baby in an unsafe position.
Eye to eye contact Your baby's face needs to be visible. His head should not be covered with any fabric. You should be able to look at your baby's entire face when he is in a carrier.
No Back Pain A carrier should not hurt your back or neck. If this happens then the carrier is not being worn correctly or the carrier is not designed correctly. There are hundreds of baby carriers on the market that can be worn with a baby that is 25+ pounds. Parents who are feeling pressure points or experiencing neck or backaches need to adjust the carrier until it is comfortable or perhaps try different carrier that will work better.
Baby K’tan, LLC was founded by two couples, the Chesals and Wernicks, who have been close friends for years. Each family was raising a child with special needs, in addition to two other children. With a desire to provide their babies with the sensory nourishment they require for optimal development, while also wanting to carry their babies as much as possible for parent-child bonding, both couples experimented with different baby slings and carriers.
Not finding the ideal carrier on the market, they began creating different designs to satisfy their children’s needs, while combining style, ease of use, and comfort.
Improving and incorporating different aspects from various slings and traditional front carriers that were already on the market, the Wernicks and Chesals created the Baby K’tan™ Baby Carrier!
Michal Chesal's (shown above) oldest son, Coby Joshua, was born with Down Syndrome in December of 1999. Coby’s birth and disability presented the need for Michal & Brian to create an environment for him that would facilitate his development and provide the extra stimulation he needed for optimal growth. In addition to his developmental delays, Coby was born with hypotonia (low muscle tone) and was adversely affected by carriers that placed his legs in excessive abduction (legs spread too far apart). It was disheartening not being able to carry him in a forward facing position as used in traditional baby carriers. Not only did Michal & Brian want to hold Coby closely and show him the world, they wanted to do it appropriately. Never completely satisfied with the carriers on the market, the Chesals partially modified existing carriers to provide a position where babies can still face forward and see the world while having their legs in a more developmentally appropriate posture.
A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of every Baby K'tan™ will be allocated to the American Heart Association and to help fund education, medical research & advocacy programs for individuals and families living with Down syndrome.

"Always glad that I own this carrier! It's very easy to use and has several options for positioning baby. I like that it goes over both shoulders - doesn't tire my back out so quickly. This was the only carrier that my son liked. I think it was because it had an option that allowed him to be upright and looking out, but still cradled more closely to me, rather than having his legs dangling out. Now with my daughter I use it around the house and not just when we're out and about because she really likes to be held. A great option if you're looking for a carrier that's comfortable and has several carrying options."

"This carrier was perfect for me and my daughter when she was a baby. This carrier is very easy to use due to the double loop design. We started using this carrier when my daughter was around 1 month old and stopped using it when she was around 8 months old because she liked to sit down and move around in a shopping car or stroller after that. The carrier does get a little hot on warm days since you have all the fabric and your baby's body heat. Granted, I did buy the black option. All in all I thought it is a very good product and plan to use it with baby #2. I would highly recommend this no-brainer baby carrier. "

"I have a bad back, and the Baby K'tan is one of my favorite carriers. They way it crosses the back adds so much more support. I love the simplicity of using it and how compact it stores."
