The magic trick behind the Knot Genie™ is one we are happy to reveal. It all has to do with the different lengths of teeth on the brush. When brushing, they bend just right, to gently untangle the hair. And because of this lack of stress, the hair's cuticle stays unharmed... revealing the smoothest, shiniest hair you've ever seen.

Its unique cloud-shaped top fits the palm nicely, whether you're right or left handed. Which means it feels more like an extension of your hand than a grooming tool. And also means the brushing process is far more comfortable, gentle, and most importantly, done quickly. Voila!

Tips to make the Knot Genie™ detangling brush experience its best.

Your life is going to get abundantly easier just by using a Knot Genie. Here are some ideas and hair-type specific tricks to make it easier still.

1) Conditioner helps. Just like lock lubricant helps a frozen lock, conditioner helps the Knot Genie undo knots and tangles. Condition after washing, and then rub a bit of conditioner between your hands and work through wet hair before brushing.  

2) Go easy on shampoo. The better the hair's condition, the easier it will be to brush — even with your Knot Genie. So when working with hair that needs to be "washed" every day (like curly hair that can only be brushed wet), use shampoo only every few days and "wash" with conditioner the others.  

3) Start small go slowly. Hair that is extremely hard to brush (especially long or curly hair) should be sectioned before brushing. Use your fingers to separate a section at a time and then begin brushing against your hand, starting at the ends and working up to the roots. This will let you apply extra untangling pressure to the knots, without pulling the hair.  

4) Dry or wet? Thick, straight or wavy hair will shine beautifully after brushing wet or dry. But don't ever brush curly hair with any brush, including the Knot Genie. Unless, of course, you're going for that Bozo look.

Q:  Does this brush work on ethnic hair?

Knot Genie Detangling Brush was invented by Rikki Mor, the youngest of three girls.

Between kindergarten and first grade, my mom cut off all my sister's and my hair because she couldn't stand the tangles and knots. We all ended up with some version (if you could call it that) of the Dorothy Hamill hair cut. So, with short hair and the name Rikki, everyone thought I was a boy growing up. I've never had long hair since mine was cut off all those years ago and I swore that if I had girls, I'd never cut their hair unless they wanted me to.

Fast forward twenty-five years and here I am with three girls. I have very thick hair and my husband has wavy/curly hair. Together, we produced three children with thick, curly hair. My oldest girls are twins and I realized I couldn't be the only mom chasing her naked kids out of the bathtub as they screamed bloody murder because they didn't want their hair brushed. Although I was tempted at times to cut their hair off, I remembered my promise and instead spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on brushes and products that promised they could get through knots and tangles without tears. I probably owned twenty brushes over the years and something about all of them worked a little bit but didn't work perfectly. I took what I learned about what worked from the brushes and created the Knot Genie.

I was selling them out of my house a year ago and just wanted to help other moms out there who dreaded bath time and brushing their children's hair. Over the last twelve months, word about the brush has traveled like wild-fire and we are currently in over 400 salons and boutiques throughout the U.S. And Canada. We have also started selling the brushes in several locations throughout the world.
